Easing the snack time dilemma with Chobani Gimmies

Easing the snack time dilemma with Chobani Gimmies

Snacking snacking snacking. If my mischievous toddler had it her way then she would happily eat cookies all day everyday. Now i don’t mind the odd treat of course but I’d prefer her to have at least some nutritional value to her snacks. She is a pretty good eater to be honest which is great but snack time is always a battle. Why won’t she eat these delicious looking carrot sticks i spent ages chopping up? Or the fruit salad i made? Having something we both agree on would be ideal and ease the snack time dilemma!

This is where Chobani come in. Chobani are Australia’s number one yogurt brand, and they are launching Chobani Gimmies. They’re a new range of Greek Yogurt snacks bringing the fun back to yogurt. They are high in protein, with no preservatives, artificial flavours or colours. Whats not to love! Chobani Gimmies also combines authentic strained Greek yogurt with fun mixins – delivering Australian kids seriously good yogurt, with a silly amount of fun.

Here are some interesting facts from research commissioned by Chobani Gimmies:

  • Nearly half of pre-school parents feel pressure from other mums regarding snack time choices
  • 74% of parents have had trouble with their kids because of food choices
  • 60% of pre-school parents have had a fight with their child over what snack they can have
  • 79% of parents would be willing to give up 1-5 hours of sleep if it meant making snack time easier

Have you felt these pressures? I certainly have. There has been many a time i have reached for the cookies in order to have peace and quiet for more than 0.3 seconds or to curb the public meltdown. I have felt the stares from other parents as i gave my toddler a kinder egg or a chocolate freddo. That’s why when i heard about Chobani Gimmies i was so intrigued to find out more.

Chobani Australia Managing Director, Peter Meek, said: “Chobani Gimmies was co-created with Australian parents and kids to create a range that gets the tick of approval from both.”

“We worked hard to craft a range that ticks all the boxes. We recognised that parents and children don’t always agree when it comes to meals and snacks, and we wanted to challenge the idea that “good food” can’t be “fun food”. Parents will love that they’re made with Chobani low-fat Greek yogurt and kids will love the crazy flavours and wacky characters.”

“We had a lot of fun with our new range. From developing flavours that connote Aussie party food, like fairy bread, to working with kids to co-create the range of loveable Gimmies characters and their personalities. We’re so excited for kids to meet their new go-to snacking friends for fun.”

So the lovely people at Chobani sent me some to try and I must say i’m impressed. Fun flavours and Rosie loves the cool packaging and exciting mixins. The convenient packaging separates the Greek yogurt from the dry mix-in ingredients, which allows snackers to flip in their mix-ins. Making it an easy, mess-free snack to have at home or on-the-go!

They come in some seriously delicious and fun flavours.

  • Poppin Fairy Floss
  • Chocolate Crackle Crunch
  • Non-Stop Watermelon pop
  • Choc Chunk Cookie Dunk
  • Airy Fairy Bread
  • Rainbow Sprinkle Cone

I obviously couldn’t let Rosie try these alone and i must say they are tasty. So it is no surprise that i like them too!

So Mums and Dads, If you’re struggling for snack time solutions then give these a try. They will soon become a must have for your household! Pick some up from your local Woolworths, Coles and independent stores now.

Tips to adapting to life with a newborn and a toddler

Tips to adapting to life with a newborn and a toddler

When you find out you’re expecting baby number 2 emotions can range from ‘oh yayy another little bundle of joy to love’ to ‘omg another baby, how will i cope with 2!’ pretty quickly. After the initial excitement of finding out you’re pregnant again the feelings of anxiety can move in and you may start to remember the sleepless nights, the constant feeding and the crazy amount of nappies you go through each day. But this time you have a toddler to contend with too.

First time around you really are in this pregnancy baby bubble. You don’t really know whats ahead of you (as much as people want to tell you) but you’re excited for the road ahead. Second time around, you’re a seasoned pro. You’ve dealt with the birth, feeding, teething, crawling and all the stages in between. You love your little toddler, they are your world and you love seeing them learn and marvel at the simplest of things. You have that confidence as you know you’ve done it once before but this time you have to deal another and adjust to life as a parent of 2!

One thing that you can’t quite imagine is how you could possibly love another as much as you love your firstborn? You worry how your toddler will take to the new baby and whether or not they fully understand the word ‘gentle’ How you are going to juggle all of lifes needs with another in tow. You may feel like you just got into a good routine and now it’s all about to change. I felt all of this and more.

Now that Gracie has hit 5 months old i honestly can’t imagine life without her. The newborn days have come and gone in the blink of an eye. All those worries i felt initially and throughout the pregnancy all melted away as soon as i saw both my girls together. The love you feel really does just double and theres nothing quite like seeing siblings connect. Rosie has really took on the big sister role and is besotted with Gracie. There’s obviously times that are harder than others, especially when both of them want my attention but mostly when i look at them i just feel so much love and wonder why i ever worried about how Rosie would handle it.

I do however think we prepared her pretty well so here are some tips that really helped us adapt to life with a newborn and a toddler:

  • Talk to your toddler about the baby BEFORE they arrive. Make them feel included in the journey, get them to feel your growing bump and explain to them that they are going to be getting a sibling.
  • Get some books that talk about a new baby in the family and big brother/sister books so they can start to understand a little more about what that means.
  • Give you toddler a baby doll to play with if they don’t already have one. Start using terms such ‘softly, gently’ etc so this way they’ll be familiar when baby does arrive.
  • Get your toddler a present from the baby. It doesn’t have to be big or expensive. Just something to ease the transition. We bought Rosie this beautiful soft fairy doll and she opened it in the hospital.
  • Let them help! Give them jobs such as getting the nappy or baby wipes, getting a rattle, choosing an outfit for baby. Rosie is obsessed with helping during change time and bath time.
  • Make sure you dedicate some one on one time with just your toddler. They’ll love having that time with just you and your full attention. I take Rosie for a weekly park play and we get ice cream together.

These tips really worked for our family and have made our transition to two very smooth. We’ve dealt with minimal jealousy from Rosie and she loves sharing her toys with Gracie (for now anyway!)

Here are some of my cherished photos of that sisterly love between Rosie and Gracie.

I’d love to hear any tips you may have that I’ve not included above that have worked for you so please let me know.

There’s always going to be worries that we as parents face when expecting another bub but just know that our toddlers are so adaptable and in short you’re giving them the most magical gift. The gift of a sibling and a best friend for life.

Now that really is special.

Bathroom Safety and my review of Dreambaby® products

Bathroom Safety and my review of Dreambaby® products

Do you have a mischievous and inquisitive toddler? I sure do! One thing that I’ve realised recently is the importance of home safety. One room in particular – The Bathroom! Pre-kids I had no idea just how many dangers were lurking in my bathroom that little hands can quite easily access. So I wanted to talk to you about some products that I use and that have really helped keep me and my little family safe.

We have been using Dreambaby® products as they have many bathroom safety and care items to help keep your child safe and cared for in what is one of the most dangerous rooms in the home.

Slippy wet floors and bathtubs can be such a hazard, especially with children around which is why we use Dreambaby® Watch-Your-Step® Anti-Slip Bath Mat with “Too Hot’ Indicator. Its textured surface is designed to place on the floor of your bath to help ensure a safe and secure bathtub environment. It’s also Decorated with fun Aussie animals including a colour changing starfish which cleverly alerts you if the water is too hot which Rosie loves! it’s sturdy and held firmly in place by multiple suction cups. Durable and with an easy-to-clean surface and perfect for most baths.

Another super handy item is the Dreambaby’s® Croc, Turtle and Duck Room & Bath Thermometers. These new Thermometers give a fast and accurate temperature reading, whilst doubling as a safe and fun toy for little ones! I always used to worry about water temperature so this is a super helpful item and the fact it doubles as a toy is even better!

Like many other parents of 2 year olds, this is when toilet training time tends to kick in. Creating a safe environment for our little ones can help build their confidence in becoming fully potty trained. I found The Dreambaby® 2-Up Step Stool is another bathroom item, which provides great help with toilet training, brushing teeth or simply looking in the mirror. Sure-grip surface coverage ensures a secure grip for covered and bare feet. I really like how the two small steps reach perfectly to the bathroom sink, the kitchen bench and other just-out-of-reach areas and of course the fact it’s easy to clean.

Another thing that’s helping our toilet training journey with Rosie is The Dreambaby® Easy-Clean Toilet Seat. It helps take the stress and mess out of toilet training. The cushioned seat comes away from the base for easy cleaning while the handle on each side makes it simple to manoeuvre and gives children something to hold. Which gives them a sense of security during this potentially “tricky” time.

The bathroom is also a place of self-care and teaching our little ones the correct hygiene is a very important lesson as part of their daily routine. Taking care of baby’s gums and teeth should start as early as possible to promote a lifelong commitment to healthy dental habits.

So we have been using The Three Stage Baby Gum & Tooth Care.

The Stage 1 Brush is ideal for babies who have or who are just about to start teething. This brush consists of a textured rubber end, with no bristle, to gently massage sore and tender gums. A soft, slow rubbing motion on your baby’s gum can alleviate the intensity of the “teething” stage, whilst preparing baby for the next stage of toothbrush.

The Stage 2 Brush is designed for the developing teeth stage, when crevices are starting to form on the gums, as teeth begin to erupt.  Again, this brush is intended for gently brushing and stroking of the gums, whilst the small rubber points work to clean gums, tooth rims and new tooth areas.

The Stage 3 Brush is the perfect “first” real toothbrush for your baby. The gentle bristles insure great oral hygiene for developing teeth, every morning and night. This stage is the most important; to ensure younger children enjoy teeth brushing, and to start them on their journey to maintaining their own developing teeth and mouth.

Another item we have used whilst on the go recently during a family trip up the central coast is Dreambaby® 10 Piece Essential Grooming Kit. This kit is packed with the essential items to help keep your baby groomed and healthy. It includes: 1x Storage Case, 1x toothbrush, 1x comb, 1x brush, 1x scissors, 1x nail clippers, 4x emery boards. Perfect for trips away or family holidays.

Keeping your little ones safe and happy is every parents priority so assess what you can improve on in your home and check out the great range of products from Dreambaby®.

Overall we are so happy with how well their range fits into our busy lives and makes bathroom fun much safer.

I’d also love to hear any tips or tricks you use when it comes to safety around the home so please drop me a message or comment below.

Review: The Milk Genie by Pumpables

Review: The Milk Genie by Pumpables

For a breastfeeding mama a good thing to invest in is a decent pump. Last pregnancy a friend gave me one of her old breast pumps. I was super grateful but it was so loud and didn’t work quite as well as I would like. This time around I knew I wanted a new pump but with so many out there I wasn’t sure which to choose. One of my Insta mama friends recommended The Milk Genie by Pumpables. Not only is it affordable it’s also really quiet meaning it doesn’t wake the baby or disturb my Netflix and pump sessions.

Here are some features I LOVE:

3 Breast shield sizes are in the box – meaning you’ll be able to ensure you get the right fit

Easy to assemble and clean

Rechargeable battery – Never run out of power!

SO quiet – Like seriously, super quiet!

Delivery is free and takes 1-4 business days so there’s not much time to wait between ordering and pumping!

2 year warranty – So good!

It has a Pump2Bag system so you can pump directly into breast milk storage bags.

I’ve had great results using the Milk Genie and I’m so happy with how its working for my little family and I. I definitely believe that this has been made with mums in mind as it really is so convenient. Another thing that I think they are doing right is there fabulous customer service which is so important for any company you’re purchasing from.

So if you or a friend are expecting and looking at buying a pump be sure to check out their range of products on their website using the following link: https://pumpables.co?raf=ref1013281

What does the start of a New Year mean to you?

What does the start of a New Year mean to you?

So we have said goodbye to 2018, the ups the downs, the magical moments and memories as well as the tough, harder times that the year brought. But just like that 2019 is here and the hope and promise of what a new year can bring has many of us dreaming of our goals and what we want to achieve. And there is no reason why you cant smash them all!

I’ve always loved New Years, I think its the idea of being able to start a fresh and leave behind the not so great moments of the past 12 months but also the hope that a New Year can bring things that you dream of. Many people find that this is the time for setting goals, whether it be fitness and health, personal and travel or business and career goals. I guess its a time that people feel so inspired to be a better version of themselves and I think that is part of the magic of beginning a New Year.

Every year I ask myself the same questions about that particular year. I do this as its nice to be able to look back and reflect before moving forward. Here are a few of the questions I ask myself.

What was your favourite memory?

What was your biggest achievement?

What would you like to do more of in the next year?

Who influenced you in a positive way?

What would you like to change about your life? (if anything)

The answers to these questions each year surprise me. It shows me how much you can learn and grow in just 12 small months. I’m very much an optimist and a positive person, I try not to focus on the negatives too much but not every year is easy and there are definitely hard, trying times for each and every one of us. By asking myself these questions it gives me a chance to really reflect and it also gives me time to stop and think “Am I on the right track?”

Why not ask yourself these questions, the answers may surprise you too.

Its easy to put pen to paper and write down your goals but it can be really hard to stick to them. That’s why its really important to make achievable and attainable goals. Id love to say Ill go to the gym 6 days a week but realistically its unattainable and ill soon realise that after a few weeks. However if I say 3 days then it would be a lot more manageable and therefore achievable. We don’t want to set ourselves up for failure. So if you do have a goal or a resolution bare this in mind.

For me 2018 was filled with many happy moments, we explored Australia as a family, Made some beautiful friendships, I watched my darling Rosie grow into this confident little toddler, and of course we welcomed our gorgeous baby girl Gracie into our lives recently which is the greatest gift by far. However 2018 was also challenging. Juggling work and Motherhood whilst navigating a difficult Pregnancy and saying goodbye to my wonderful Nanna.

So goodbye 2018 and welcome 2019. Reflect back on the year you had and whatever your goals are for 2019 may all your dreams come true! I hope the year ahead is filled with so much love, lots of laughs and a little bit of magic!

Happy New Year to you all!

Here we go again…ROUND TWO

Here we go again…ROUND TWO

So if you have been following our journey on Instagram then you will know that we are expecting our second baby at the end of this year.

Rosie will be very nearly 2 and to say i’ll have my hands full is an understatement. Lots of parents do it, some a closer age gap and others choose a bigger age gap. I really don’t think there is the perfect time so we decided earlier this year to embark on the next adventure and officially start “trying” (Basically means just have more sex right?)

It took us a good few months with Rosie and we had (naively) assumed that it would be the same this time. WRONG. Yup, it happened the first month. I honestly still cant believe it happened that quickly. My heart goes out to all you ladies travelling along the trying to conceive journey. It can be a long road for many so I’m very thankful that it was able to happen so quickly for us despite my history.

After the initial excitement of seeing that positive test I couldn’t help but feel a mix of emotions. Obviously I was incredibly happy, after all it was what we wanted BUT some thoughts were flying around my head that were totally different the second time.

Like…..will I ever sleep again? We finallllllly have Rosie in such a good routine and now I’m about to add a newborn to the mix…Oh great sure, what a good idea that is.

And what about all the stuff we have to buy? Ahhhh hang on – we have bags loads of Rosie’s clothes that baby can wear and if its a boy then he can totally wear pink too right?

First time round we really had no idea what we were getting ourselves in for. Well we kind of did but you don’t REALLY know until you become a parent yourself am i right? Its a wild ride with many ups and downs and just as you think you have got it nailed they change, their needs change and you are back to square one. I certainly feel a lot more prepared but I also have the dread too. Is that normal? The birth, the crazy post natal emotions, sleepless nights and trying to work out just what those cries mean. It is pretty overwhelming but what I do know is that despite all of that – we have totally got this. Sometimes you have just got to enjoy the ride and take each day as it comes so that is what we plan to do.

All you second, third, fourth (and so on) time mamas, I would love to hear your advice and recommendations on the transition into growing your family. How did your first born handle it? What were the challenges? And of course the benefits too! Please drop me a comment here or DM on Instagram. I would LOVE all of your expertise.

So yes, here we go again. Ready or not

Peace out ladies

Support throughout your Breastfeeding Journey with Medela

When i found out i was pregnant with Rosie i knew that i wanted to Breastfeed. I didn’t really know much about breastfeeding so i signed myself up to my hospital breastfeeding class to gain more of an understanding and to try to prepare as much as possible for our breastfeeding journey ahead.

Fast forward to the day she was born and I remember that first latch she took so well. She knew exactly what she was looking for and latched on with minimal issues. Throughout our hospital stay we had our wonderful midwives taking the time to check the correct latch and guiding us through it but what about when you go home? Who guides you then i remember thinking.

Throughout our breastfeeding journey i used Medela products. Medela provide breastfeeding mums, families and communities with leading breastfeeding products, expert insights, and ongoing research and education to support the breastfeeding journey.

I felt well-informed, guided and supported through using their products and with the information they had available to us mums.  Our journey wasn’t always easy but by being supported really helped me overcome any issues we experienced,

Medela showcased a series of artwork produced for Medela by Australian Students depicting what ‘Mother’s Milk Means’ to them. I wanted to share with you my favourite piece from the series.

To me this image represents the unconditional love between mother and child. It shows the close and loving bond between you and your baby and that breastfeeding can be a deeply satisfying experience for both mother and child.

Making time for Mum

Making time for Mum

Before children come along we have a lot of time on our hands. I remember having so much time that I probably wasted a lot of it. I mean I could eat, sleep, exercise and socialise whenever I wanted and without guilt. Oh how times change. Now just to have a few hours with my girlfriends takes a whole lot of planning, prepping and stressing. But you know what, it is SO worth it.

Although it feels like its a lot of work, those few hours out for lunch or drinks or even just to myself to recharge are so important. I come back feeling refreshed, feeling energised and feeling like I can be a better mum all because I had a few hours to myself doing something I enjoy.

Taking the time to pamper ourselves, getting our hair cut, our nails done or even an indulgent massage. By taking that small space of time and putting ourselves first actually benefits our family and our little ones. The saying a happy mum = a happy family couldn’t be more fitting and is oh so true.

As busy mums its totally understandable that we forget about ourselves as we are too busy concentrating on our children, their needs and our partners needs. BUT. What about our needs?

We shouldn’t put our needs to the bottom of the pile. It’s all about balance and to be honest I’m still figuring that out. What I do know is that by making time for me I’m much more of a productive person. I’m more present with my family and feel a lot more in control.

There’s also the guilt… We may make that time for ourselves but then we feel guilty. Why is that? Mother Guilt is SO real and I haven’t met a mum who hasn’t experienced it. Its not just even about leaving our children its about everything. The food we give them, leaving them at daycare, whether they are stimulated enough, too much iPad time, too much TV, Its a daily battle.

All we want as parents is for our little ones to feel loved, safe and secure and most importantly be healthy. We put so much time and energy into our kids that it’s so easy to forget about our needs.

So mama’s take the time for you. Whatever you enjoy, arrange some time to do what you love. Recharge your mum batteries and see the benefits to your mindset.

And remember a happy mum really does equal and a happy family.

Review: The Baby Unicorn Manifesto

Review: The Baby Unicorn Manifesto

We all know how much I love unicorns as well as anything magical. After all, Rosie’s first Birthday was unicorn themed so we do have lots of unicorn goodies in our home.

So when I recently received a book named “The Baby Unicorn Manifesto” I was beyond excited to read it to Rosie.

Reading is so important, It helps develop our little ones in many different ways. They learn different sounds, language and it can help them start to recognise words. It’s great for their curiosity and assists their imagination to grow. That’s not all, Reading can help children deal with their feelings and understand different emotions. Sometimes it’s hard to find the time, we all lead busy lives but I believe this is an important step in our children’s routines that can really help them in the long run.

We added reading to our evening routine early on and now she really looks forward to her bed time story, And if I’m honest, I do too. Its a nice way to wind down the day is pretty soothing for both of us, Oh and lets not forget daddy too. I also see it as a bonding exercise for us. I relish the cuddles I get as we snuggle up to a good book together.

My first impression upon opening this book was the beautiful illustration by Nathalie Beauvois on the front cover. Throughout the book the illustration gets better and better. Stunning colours and magical scenes. Enough to inspire us all. The story to go with this book is just as pleasant. The message is to help children understand how capable, special and powerful they truly are. To help build the self-esteem of our little ones and teach them that they can be anything they want. The possibilities are endless in this world and I want Rosie to know just how loved she is and that she can accomplish and be anything she wants to be, And this book inspires that. A beautiful story and a reminder to us that we have unlimited potential from the day we are born.

It is certainly a unique book with a very powerful message and I could not recommend this book enough to you and your little baby unicorns.

Let their imaginations run wild.

Review: Paint and Play

Review: Paint and Play

We all want our kids to learn and grow but also be entertained at the same time. If you have watched any of my recent Instagram stories you will see that Rosie and I have been attending Paint and Play in Sydney.

I live local but had never heard about it, it wasn’t until one afternoon that I started to google ‘Things to do for baby and toddlers near me’ that I came across their information.

Located in Alexandria, they have both inside and outdoor activities. All the experiences and activities aim to allow children to express their thoughts and feelings, practice and develop their skills, help the children to think creatively and learn how to solve problems and to develop early language, numeracy and literacy skills, while having fun in a safe and stimulating environment.

The sessions run on a Monday and Thursday each week between 10am and 12pm.

The first hour is more of a free play, the kids can go around each activity and play until their hearts content. I was really impressed with the variety of activities that they had on offer. Everything from painting and playdoh to dress ups and puzzles. The activities are also rotated on a weekly basis to go along with the ‘theme’ that they are learning about which means there’s always something new. The location itself is very clean, bright and safe for all the little ones too.

The session is broken up by a small morning tea in a separate room with plenty of space and yummy snacks for everyone to refuel before a more structured play time for the duration of the session.

The kids then all gather around and they learn fun rhymes, songs and also play instruments such as tin can drums to music. It’s a great way for your child to interact with other children in more of a class style second half. However if your little one doesn’t quite have the attention span just yet then they are still free to play with the other activities or play on the equipment outside.

You can go for part of it or all of it and there is no booking required. It’s a wonderful morning for both you and you child and I can tell you from experience that your little ones will need a nice long nap after which is a total mum win!

For more information and details on pricing, whats on and parties visit their website:

https://www.paintandplay.com.au/

Here is a few snaps of us enjoying our time there:

So if you are in Sydney then be sure to visit, you won’t be disappointed.

Happy Painting and Playing!
