How we updated Rosie’s bedroom on a budget and tips you can use too!

How we updated Rosie’s bedroom on a budget and tips you can use too!

We all know how expensive anything home décor can be and don’t get me wrong I do love myself a beautiful cushion but I cannot deal with the hefty pricetag usually associated with it! Rosie is now 3 and a half and was still in her ikea cot turned toddler bed and it really was time for an upgrade but as 2020 is the year of covid many families, like us are struggling with finances and are trying to keep within a budget.

I decided I’d create this blog with some tips and tricks on updating your kids room on a budget and what we did to create this pretty space for her. I must add Rosie did request one thing – it needed to be Paris themed. Even better I thought, I LOVE a challenge.

First thing we needed to upgrade was the bed. Bye bye cot – it’s been fun but its onto a big girl bed for miss Rosie!

Bed’s can be really expensive and a new bed is certainly a luxury however there are ways you can save. It’s no lie that I love to opshop and give second hand things another life so with this in mind I decided to jump on Facebook Marketplace. I didn’t find anything at first however after perservering I found a double bed frame going for FREE. Yup that’s right. FREE. Many people will give away their old things and just rememeber one mans trash is anothers treasure. I jumped (literally jumped) at the chance and off rob went to collect.

It was perfect and exactly what I was after as we already had a spare double mattress. Meaning no new mattress required!

She is only 3 so I did wonder if this might be too big but hey atleast she won’t grow out of it anytime soon!

Now I knew she wanted a Paris theme so every time i popped to my local salvos I ensure I looked for any goodies. I got this wonderful canvas print for only $10 – The fact it was pink too made me very excited as I knew it would fit in perfectly.

You may ask why she wanted a Paris theme and it’s all down to the Claris in Paris books by Megan Hess.

As it was her books that inspired the theme I decided to get a little creative. I google imaged a few Claris in Paris pictures and printed these at home. I bought 3 plain 5×7 frames for $1.75 each from Kmart and voila! A little Claris corner. You can do this with any theme too. Ballerinas, Trucks, Dinosaurs. You name it!

Here are a few furnishings that I bought to finish off the room – All from Kmart. Little finishing touches to make it homely, yet pretty and efficient.

Now time for the biggest expense (I do feel like it was worth it though!) the duvet cover!

We bought this duvet cover from Myer and it was a little pricey – $109 however as we saved on the bed I felt like I could justify it a little.

The print is stunning and matched perfectly with her Parisian theme. Although we spent a little more on the duvet there was certainly some gorgeous options at a more affordable price just non that fit the theme to a T. It was Rob who managed to spot it, What a legend!

I would love to add some floating shelves however as we live in a rental we cannot screw into the wall. Anything we do have hung we have used the command sticky strips and hooks which work really well however not sure they would hold a shelf!

My biggest tips are as follows:

–   Check local facebook groups, Marketplace and opshops for bargains!

–   If there is a theme, Print pictures and frame them to add to the theme of the room

–   Check out budget friendly homewares such as Kmart, Best and Less, Target and Big W.

And there you have it Rosie’s Parisian dream room. Do you love it?

Happy Reno’s

Moving the family home (including breakables & decluttering)

As you may of seen we recently moved house! We packed up all of our belongings – which was  A LOT by the way! I didn’t quite realise just how much stuff we had accumulated, especially since having kids. We said goodbye to our 2 bedroom apartment in favour of somewhere with more space and garden for the girls to run around in. Moving is never easy, but it can be made a lot simpler by following a few steps!

Step 1: Prepare

Preparing for a house move is almost more important and stressful than actually moving! You need to prepare a thorough step-by-step plan to ensure nothing is left to the last minute. The earlier you start to pack means you will have extra time to declutter – ensuring only your favourite and most useful items make it to your fresh new home! Make sure to allow enough time to go through each room from top to tail, dedicating one day per room so you don’t get bored (or more likely tired, haha). As you go through your belongings I find it very useful to have three piles: the yes section; the no section; and maybe section. The yes comes with you to your new home, you can pack this up when ready. The no is what you don’t want or need anymore (think of how you can donate or recycle this pile to reduce waste). The maybe pile can be set aside – you have two options here, either leave them out and revisit closer to moving day, or store them until after the move and when unpacking ask yourself if you missed them?

Step 2: Pack

Packing can be a nightmare – even more so with kids. The thought of packing with young kids can be very draining. When do you do it, nap time? What if they wake up, will you have enough time? It can be so easy to get stressed out and try to rush and end up breaking your favourite vase or precious memorabilia. My biggest tip here is for mums out there is to accept help and hire a packer! By hiring a professional who does this every day, knows what to do and how to do it quickly… it’s a real lifesaver. This means you can leave the precious breakables to them and focus on what is important – family (and getting all the other hundreds things ready for the move, ha!) And labelling…I’m forever a labelling queen.

Step 3: Moving day + after

Once the truck is loaded by the pro’s and you’ve got the essentials in the car – by essentials I don’t just mean the kids, hubby and the dog… don’t forget to keep a few days of clothes and toiletries/snacks with you juuuuuust in case. Once you arrive at your new happily-ever-after make sure to unload the big ticket items first, there’s nothing worse than tripping over boxes trying to get the couch through the door. Let your kids “help” by opening up a few non-breakable boxes and helping them to start sorting their own belongings into their new home.

At the end of the day moving can be very stressful, but also really exciting – just take the stress out of it by using the professionals…think of all the grey hairs you’ll avoid! 😉

Review: The Woods Farm – Farm Stay in the beautiful Jervis Bay

Review: The Woods Farm – Farm Stay in the beautiful Jervis Bay

With my upcoming 30th I knew I wanted to plan a little family getaway. Somewhere we could relax but wasn’t too far from Sydney. We had been to Jervis Bay a number of times and loved the laid back lifestyle, beautiful beaches and friendly locals so when a friend had recommended The Woods Farm I decided to look into it.

The Woods Farm is described as Luxury Farm Accommodation. Their cabins are self contained and all have three bedrooms, air con, premium foxtel and more. There is also daily animal feeding, yoga classes, a country pool, free bike hire and a park for Rosie to play. This place really sounded and looked like the perfect place for us to visit as a family. So we booked up to stay for 3 nights.

Upon booking you can choose from a selection of their 8 individually styled and themed houses. The Flowerhouse instantly appealed to me as it had a pink door. And well….we all know I love PINK. So it was a no-brainer for me.

The day had came for us to travel down from Sydney, With a little pit stop it took us around 3 hours and as we arrived the heavens opened. It started absolutely torrential raining but we didn’t let that dampen our spirits. We had been texted a code to simply enter into the door of our house when we arrived so there was no long check in process and we could get settled instantly.

The house really did not disappoint. It was styled to perfection. So quirky yet luxurious. I knew we were in for a fabulous few days. The rain soon cleared up, the kids went to bed and Robert decided to get the firepit going. We sat rugged up next to the fire, enjoying each others company whilst sharing a bottle of Red. The perfect end to my 20’s.

Our nights were so restful, The beds were SO comfortable and there was minimal fuss from our two girls. They clearly liked their surroundings too. Winning! The first morning i woke to a house filled with balloons as it was my birthday. Hello 30! I should also add, when we arrived there was a box of goodies waiting for me from the lovely management. Such a nice touch!

The rain cleared up and the sun was shining for the majority of our stay, there was kangaroos outside our window every morning and the grounds were stunning. There really is something about being in nature that is good for the soul. We went to the daily feedings of the animals every morning at 9am and what an experience it was! Rosie absolutely loved each and every animal and ensured they all got fed equally, bless her. The Goats were oh so cheeky with the two smaller Goats jumping up at us to get our attention and food pellets. They quickly became Rosie’s favourite. We enjoyed fresh eggs from the chicken coop for breakfast each day followed by a play in the park for Rosie.

Lunch times would roll around and we noted that there was a wood fired pizza oven in the herb garden. Robert was keen to give this a go so we made Pizza dough from scratch and started our oven. It was such a fun activity to do with our toddler Rosie, She loved helping us knead the dough and add the toppings. We did this twice as we loved it so much the first time. It was a little cold for us to use the pool but in summer this would be perfect for an afternoon dip.

Jervis bay itself is such a beautiful area. The beaches are just so stunning and the national parks are so fun to explore. One afternoon we explored Booderee National Park and stopped at some wonderful beach spots. Little miss Rosie, ever the explorer was splashing in puddles and fell right in, cutting our time there short as of course, I forgot to pack spare clothes.

With so much to do, see and explore in the local area, it really is the perfect spot for families.

We were approaching the end of our trip and I was so not ready for our little holiday to end so we decided to stay another night as they had some availability and they were so accommodating.

Our days were filled with enjoying each others company as a family without the need to be anywhere. The beauty and relaxed nature of the The Woods Farm really did give us such a break from the hustle and bustle of Sydney.

I would recommend this farm stay to all and since returning have raved about it! It really does have it all and we can’t wait to go back! Have a browse through my photos to see just how gorgeous this place is! They also do weddings and events and honestly i now want to get married here. Just got to get a ring first haha. They even have Glamping tents that look so cool. So if you’re looking for a getaway not too far from Sydney either as a couple, with family or friends then look no further as this place is just plain fabulous.

Hit me up with any questions you may have as I’m always happy to answer! This isn’t sponsored at all just wanted to share with you all how much of fun time we had.

Happy Holidaying.

Starting solids and baby food prep with Philips Avent 4 in 1 healthy baby food maker.

Starting solids and baby food prep with Philips Avent 4 in 1 healthy baby food maker.

You blink and they’re 6 months old and so begins the journey of starting solids. It’s a fun, exciting and a messy time for your little one as they try lots of different fruits and veggies. I found that with Rosie making my own baby food could be really time consuming. Now with Gracie I’m a lot better prepared!

We were kindly gifted the Philips 4 in 1 healthy baby food maker. This clever little machine can steam, blend, defrost and reheat all in the one device. We all want our kids to have nutritious food as its essential to their healthy development. The Philips Avent healthy baby food maker helps you prepare tasty homemade meals, tailored to your baby’s needs, in a simple way.

It supports every step of the way on your baby’s food journey. From very finely blended fruit and vegetables to combining ingredients of meat, fish and pulses and finally offering chunkier textures.

I’ve been using it for a few weeks now and it’s definitely making my life easier as it saves so much time. Once your ingredients are steamed, all you have to do is lift the jar, flip it over and lock it in place, so you can blend to your desired consistency. Its super easy to clean too and is dishwasher safe which i was surprised about but is an added bonus.

Making your own baby food doesn’t have to be a hard task and I’m so happy that this is working so well within our family.

If you’re on your way to starting solids or looking at an easier option definitely check out their website for further information and where to buy.

https://www.philips.com.au/c-p/SCF875_06/4-in-1-healthy-baby-food-maker

Although we’re at the beginning of our solids journey i know this will be a staple kitchen appliance for us moving forward as we explore the wonderful world of food with our littlest love, Gracie.

Feel free to ask any questions you may have, I’m always happy to connect and help in any way i can.

Happy Cooking!

Easing the snack time dilemma with Chobani Gimmies

Easing the snack time dilemma with Chobani Gimmies

Snacking snacking snacking. If my mischievous toddler had it her way then she would happily eat cookies all day everyday. Now i don’t mind the odd treat of course but I’d prefer her to have at least some nutritional value to her snacks. She is a pretty good eater to be honest which is great but snack time is always a battle. Why won’t she eat these delicious looking carrot sticks i spent ages chopping up? Or the fruit salad i made? Having something we both agree on would be ideal and ease the snack time dilemma!

This is where Chobani come in. Chobani are Australia’s number one yogurt brand, and they are launching Chobani Gimmies. They’re a new range of Greek Yogurt snacks bringing the fun back to yogurt. They are high in protein, with no preservatives, artificial flavours or colours. Whats not to love! Chobani Gimmies also combines authentic strained Greek yogurt with fun mixins – delivering Australian kids seriously good yogurt, with a silly amount of fun.

Here are some interesting facts from research commissioned by Chobani Gimmies:

  • Nearly half of pre-school parents feel pressure from other mums regarding snack time choices
  • 74% of parents have had trouble with their kids because of food choices
  • 60% of pre-school parents have had a fight with their child over what snack they can have
  • 79% of parents would be willing to give up 1-5 hours of sleep if it meant making snack time easier

Have you felt these pressures? I certainly have. There has been many a time i have reached for the cookies in order to have peace and quiet for more than 0.3 seconds or to curb the public meltdown. I have felt the stares from other parents as i gave my toddler a kinder egg or a chocolate freddo. That’s why when i heard about Chobani Gimmies i was so intrigued to find out more.

Chobani Australia Managing Director, Peter Meek, said: “Chobani Gimmies was co-created with Australian parents and kids to create a range that gets the tick of approval from both.”

“We worked hard to craft a range that ticks all the boxes. We recognised that parents and children don’t always agree when it comes to meals and snacks, and we wanted to challenge the idea that “good food” can’t be “fun food”. Parents will love that they’re made with Chobani low-fat Greek yogurt and kids will love the crazy flavours and wacky characters.”

“We had a lot of fun with our new range. From developing flavours that connote Aussie party food, like fairy bread, to working with kids to co-create the range of loveable Gimmies characters and their personalities. We’re so excited for kids to meet their new go-to snacking friends for fun.”

So the lovely people at Chobani sent me some to try and I must say i’m impressed. Fun flavours and Rosie loves the cool packaging and exciting mixins. The convenient packaging separates the Greek yogurt from the dry mix-in ingredients, which allows snackers to flip in their mix-ins. Making it an easy, mess-free snack to have at home or on-the-go!

They come in some seriously delicious and fun flavours.

  • Poppin Fairy Floss
  • Chocolate Crackle Crunch
  • Non-Stop Watermelon pop
  • Choc Chunk Cookie Dunk
  • Airy Fairy Bread
  • Rainbow Sprinkle Cone

I obviously couldn’t let Rosie try these alone and i must say they are tasty. So it is no surprise that i like them too!

So Mums and Dads, If you’re struggling for snack time solutions then give these a try. They will soon become a must have for your household! Pick some up from your local Woolworths, Coles and independent stores now.

Be sure to follow them on Instagram here https://www.instagram.com/chobaniau/

Happy Snacking

Tips to adapting to life with a newborn and a toddler

Tips to adapting to life with a newborn and a toddler

When you find out you’re expecting baby number 2 emotions can range from ‘oh yayy another little bundle of joy to love’ to ‘omg another baby, how will i cope with 2!’ pretty quickly. After the initial excitement of finding out you’re pregnant again the feelings of anxiety can move in and you may start to remember the sleepless nights, the constant feeding and the crazy amount of nappies you go through each day. But this time you have a toddler to contend with too.

First time around you really are in this pregnancy baby bubble. You don’t really know whats ahead of you (as much as people want to tell you) but you’re excited for the road ahead. Second time around, you’re a seasoned pro. You’ve dealt with the birth, feeding, teething, crawling and all the stages in between. You love your little toddler, they are your world and you love seeing them learn and marvel at the simplest of things. You have that confidence as you know you’ve done it once before but this time you have to deal another and adjust to life as a parent of 2!

One thing that you can’t quite imagine is how you could possibly love another as much as you love your firstborn? You worry how your toddler will take to the new baby and whether or not they fully understand the word ‘gentle’ How you are going to juggle all of lifes needs with another in tow. You may feel like you just got into a good routine and now it’s all about to change. I felt all of this and more.

Now that Gracie has hit 5 months old i honestly can’t imagine life without her. The newborn days have come and gone in the blink of an eye. All those worries i felt initially and throughout the pregnancy all melted away as soon as i saw both my girls together. The love you feel really does just double and theres nothing quite like seeing siblings connect. Rosie has really took on the big sister role and is besotted with Gracie. There’s obviously times that are harder than others, especially when both of them want my attention but mostly when i look at them i just feel so much love and wonder why i ever worried about how Rosie would handle it.

I do however think we prepared her pretty well so here are some tips that really helped us adapt to life with a newborn and a toddler:

  • Talk to your toddler about the baby BEFORE they arrive. Make them feel included in the journey, get them to feel your growing bump and explain to them that they are going to be getting a sibling.
  • Get some books that talk about a new baby in the family and big brother/sister books so they can start to understand a little more about what that means.
  • Give you toddler a baby doll to play with if they don’t already have one. Start using terms such ‘softly, gently’ etc so this way they’ll be familiar when baby does arrive.
  • Get your toddler a present from the baby. It doesn’t have to be big or expensive. Just something to ease the transition. We bought Rosie this beautiful soft fairy doll and she opened it in the hospital.
  • Let them help! Give them jobs such as getting the nappy or baby wipes, getting a rattle, choosing an outfit for baby. Rosie is obsessed with helping during change time and bath time.
  • Make sure you dedicate some one on one time with just your toddler. They’ll love having that time with just you and your full attention. I take Rosie for a weekly park play and we get ice cream together.

These tips really worked for our family and have made our transition to two very smooth. We’ve dealt with minimal jealousy from Rosie and she loves sharing her toys with Gracie (for now anyway!)

Here are some of my cherished photos of that sisterly love between Rosie and Gracie.

I’d love to hear any tips you may have that I’ve not included above that have worked for you so please let me know.

There’s always going to be worries that we as parents face when expecting another bub but just know that our toddlers are so adaptable and in short you’re giving them the most magical gift. The gift of a sibling and a best friend for life.

Now that really is special.

Review: The Milk Genie by Pumpables

Review: The Milk Genie by Pumpables

For a breastfeeding mama a good thing to invest in is a decent pump. Last pregnancy a friend gave me one of her old breast pumps. I was super grateful but it was so loud and didn’t work quite as well as I would like. This time around I knew I wanted a new pump but with so many out there I wasn’t sure which to choose. One of my Insta mama friends recommended The Milk Genie by Pumpables. Not only is it affordable it’s also really quiet meaning it doesn’t wake the baby or disturb my Netflix and pump sessions.

Here are some features I LOVE:

3 Breast shield sizes are in the box – meaning you’ll be able to ensure you get the right fit

Easy to assemble and clean

Rechargeable battery – Never run out of power!

SO quiet – Like seriously, super quiet!

Delivery is free and takes 1-4 business days so there’s not much time to wait between ordering and pumping!

2 year warranty – So good!

It has a Pump2Bag system so you can pump directly into breast milk storage bags.

I’ve had great results using the Milk Genie and I’m so happy with how its working for my little family and I. I definitely believe that this has been made with mums in mind as it really is so convenient. Another thing that I think they are doing right is there fabulous customer service which is so important for any company you’re purchasing from.

So if you or a friend are expecting and looking at buying a pump be sure to check out their range of products on their website using the following link: https://pumpables.co?raf=ref1013281

Spring Cleaning

Spring Cleaning

As a busy mum sometimes my jobs pile up without me even realising it. I’m a very organised person (well I like to think so) and love a good sort out but sometimes there isn’t enough hours in the day which I know all you mamas can relate too. As we are coming up to spring here in Australia I decided to have a big clear out, and tidy up every room in my house.

It was a daunting task but it had to be done. I cleaned kitchen cupboards, bathrooms, bedrooms, endless supply of clothes to give to charity and slowly but surely my house was becoming much cleaner and a lot more organised. Don’t get me wrong I tidy weekly, sometimes daily but there is no better feeling than a nice clean home. Am I right?

One thing that I feel like I constantly have to tackle is my floors. As you fellow mamas know they do not stay clean for long. I didn’t realise how much damage my toddler could do with a granola bar! I’m forever vacuuming, mopping, sweeping. I swear its easier to just keep them dirty but well you know…germs – I definitely do not want them hanging around.

One item that I have recently tried out is the VAX steam mop – Not only is it quick and effective it also can be used on different floors. Whether that be your bathroom, kitchen or even your carpets for a freshen up. The Vax Steam Fresh is a powerful steam cleaner ideal for hygienically cleaning sealed hard floors, which combined with specially formulated Vax Steam Detergent, breaks down grime, neutralises odours and eliminates 99.9% of harmful bacteria. It breaks down grease and grime which leaves floors sparkling. I also really like how lightweight and easy to use it is. It’s only 3.0kg and took very little time to set up and get started on my floors.

One feature I also LOVE is the detachable handheld steamer making cleaning grout within your tiles or shower super easy. No more scrubbing for what seems like hours. See some before and after photos below which show just how clean it makes tiles and floors.

Not heard of Vax before? Vax is a complete floorcare brand offering a range of products for all in home cleaning tasks. They provides products that provide both efficient and effective results.

If you would like to give this or any of their other products a try then Vax is sold through a range of retailers including;Bunnings Warehouse, Harvey Norman, The Good Guys, JB Hi-Fi Home, Bing Lee etc.

Cleaning made easy! Be sure to give it a go and let me know what you think.

Happy Cleaning

Here we go again…ROUND TWO

Here we go again…ROUND TWO

So if you have been following our journey on Instagram then you will know that we are expecting our second baby at the end of this year.

Rosie will be very nearly 2 and to say i’ll have my hands full is an understatement. Lots of parents do it, some a closer age gap and others choose a bigger age gap. I really don’t think there is the perfect time so we decided earlier this year to embark on the next adventure and officially start “trying” (Basically means just have more sex right?)

It took us a good few months with Rosie and we had (naively) assumed that it would be the same this time. WRONG. Yup, it happened the first month. I honestly still cant believe it happened that quickly. My heart goes out to all you ladies travelling along the trying to conceive journey. It can be a long road for many so I’m very thankful that it was able to happen so quickly for us despite my history.

After the initial excitement of seeing that positive test I couldn’t help but feel a mix of emotions. Obviously I was incredibly happy, after all it was what we wanted BUT some thoughts were flying around my head that were totally different the second time.

Like…..will I ever sleep again? We finallllllly have Rosie in such a good routine and now I’m about to add a newborn to the mix…Oh great sure, what a good idea that is.

And what about all the stuff we have to buy? Ahhhh hang on – we have bags loads of Rosie’s clothes that baby can wear and if its a boy then he can totally wear pink too right?

First time round we really had no idea what we were getting ourselves in for. Well we kind of did but you don’t REALLY know until you become a parent yourself am i right? Its a wild ride with many ups and downs and just as you think you have got it nailed they change, their needs change and you are back to square one. I certainly feel a lot more prepared but I also have the dread too. Is that normal? The birth, the crazy post natal emotions, sleepless nights and trying to work out just what those cries mean. It is pretty overwhelming but what I do know is that despite all of that – we have totally got this. Sometimes you have just got to enjoy the ride and take each day as it comes so that is what we plan to do.

All you second, third, fourth (and so on) time mamas, I would love to hear your advice and recommendations on the transition into growing your family. How did your first born handle it? What were the challenges? And of course the benefits too! Please drop me a comment here or DM on Instagram. I would LOVE all of your expertise.

So yes, here we go again. Ready or not

Peace out ladies
