Bathroom Safety and my review of Dreambaby® products

Bathroom Safety and my review of Dreambaby® products

Do you have a mischievous and inquisitive toddler? I sure do! One thing that I’ve realised recently is the importance of home safety. One room in particular – The Bathroom! Pre-kids I had no idea just how many dangers were lurking in my bathroom that little hands can quite easily access. So I wanted to talk to you about some products that I use and that have really helped keep me and my little family safe.

We have been using Dreambaby® products as they have many bathroom safety and care items to help keep your child safe and cared for in what is one of the most dangerous rooms in the home.

Slippy wet floors and bathtubs can be such a hazard, especially with children around which is why we use Dreambaby® Watch-Your-Step® Anti-Slip Bath Mat with “Too Hot’ Indicator. Its textured surface is designed to place on the floor of your bath to help ensure a safe and secure bathtub environment. It’s also Decorated with fun Aussie animals including a colour changing starfish which cleverly alerts you if the water is too hot which Rosie loves! it’s sturdy and held firmly in place by multiple suction cups. Durable and with an easy-to-clean surface and perfect for most baths.

Another super handy item is the Dreambaby’s® Croc, Turtle and Duck Room & Bath Thermometers. These new Thermometers give a fast and accurate temperature reading, whilst doubling as a safe and fun toy for little ones! I always used to worry about water temperature so this is a super helpful item and the fact it doubles as a toy is even better!

Like many other parents of 2 year olds, this is when toilet training time tends to kick in. Creating a safe environment for our little ones can help build their confidence in becoming fully potty trained. I found The Dreambaby® 2-Up Step Stool is another bathroom item, which provides great help with toilet training, brushing teeth or simply looking in the mirror. Sure-grip surface coverage ensures a secure grip for covered and bare feet. I really like how the two small steps reach perfectly to the bathroom sink, the kitchen bench and other just-out-of-reach areas and of course the fact it’s easy to clean.

Another thing that’s helping our toilet training journey with Rosie is The Dreambaby® Easy-Clean Toilet Seat. It helps take the stress and mess out of toilet training. The cushioned seat comes away from the base for easy cleaning while the handle on each side makes it simple to manoeuvre and gives children something to hold. Which gives them a sense of security during this potentially “tricky” time.

The bathroom is also a place of self-care and teaching our little ones the correct hygiene is a very important lesson as part of their daily routine. Taking care of baby’s gums and teeth should start as early as possible to promote a lifelong commitment to healthy dental habits.

So we have been using The Three Stage Baby Gum & Tooth Care.

The Stage 1 Brush is ideal for babies who have or who are just about to start teething. This brush consists of a textured rubber end, with no bristle, to gently massage sore and tender gums. A soft, slow rubbing motion on your baby’s gum can alleviate the intensity of the “teething” stage, whilst preparing baby for the next stage of toothbrush.

The Stage 2 Brush is designed for the developing teeth stage, when crevices are starting to form on the gums, as teeth begin to erupt.  Again, this brush is intended for gently brushing and stroking of the gums, whilst the small rubber points work to clean gums, tooth rims and new tooth areas.

The Stage 3 Brush is the perfect “first” real toothbrush for your baby. The gentle bristles insure great oral hygiene for developing teeth, every morning and night. This stage is the most important; to ensure younger children enjoy teeth brushing, and to start them on their journey to maintaining their own developing teeth and mouth.

Another item we have used whilst on the go recently during a family trip up the central coast is Dreambaby® 10 Piece Essential Grooming Kit. This kit is packed with the essential items to help keep your baby groomed and healthy. It includes: 1x Storage Case, 1x toothbrush, 1x comb, 1x brush, 1x scissors, 1x nail clippers, 4x emery boards. Perfect for trips away or family holidays.

Keeping your little ones safe and happy is every parents priority so assess what you can improve on in your home and check out the great range of products from Dreambaby®.

Overall we are so happy with how well their range fits into our busy lives and makes bathroom fun much safer.

I’d also love to hear any tips or tricks you use when it comes to safety around the home so please drop me a message or comment below.

Review: The Milk Genie by Pumpables

Review: The Milk Genie by Pumpables

For a breastfeeding mama a good thing to invest in is a decent pump. Last pregnancy a friend gave me one of her old breast pumps. I was super grateful but it was so loud and didn’t work quite as well as I would like. This time around I knew I wanted a new pump but with so many out there I wasn’t sure which to choose. One of my Insta mama friends recommended The Milk Genie by Pumpables. Not only is it affordable it’s also really quiet meaning it doesn’t wake the baby or disturb my Netflix and pump sessions.

Here are some features I LOVE:

3 Breast shield sizes are in the box – meaning you’ll be able to ensure you get the right fit

Easy to assemble and clean

Rechargeable battery – Never run out of power!

SO quiet – Like seriously, super quiet!

Delivery is free and takes 1-4 business days so there’s not much time to wait between ordering and pumping!

2 year warranty – So good!

It has a Pump2Bag system so you can pump directly into breast milk storage bags.

I’ve had great results using the Milk Genie and I’m so happy with how its working for my little family and I. I definitely believe that this has been made with mums in mind as it really is so convenient. Another thing that I think they are doing right is there fabulous customer service which is so important for any company you’re purchasing from.

So if you or a friend are expecting and looking at buying a pump be sure to check out their range of products on their website using the following link: https://pumpables.co?raf=ref1013281

Happy Pumping

Spring Cleaning

Spring Cleaning

As a busy mum sometimes my jobs pile up without me even realising it. I’m a very organised person (well I like to think so) and love a good sort out but sometimes there isn’t enough hours in the day which I know all you mamas can relate too. As we are coming up to spring here in Australia I decided to have a big clear out, and tidy up every room in my house.

It was a daunting task but it had to be done. I cleaned kitchen cupboards, bathrooms, bedrooms, endless supply of clothes to give to charity and slowly but surely my house was becoming much cleaner and a lot more organised. Don’t get me wrong I tidy weekly, sometimes daily but there is no better feeling than a nice clean home. Am I right?

One thing that I feel like I constantly have to tackle is my floors. As you fellow mamas know they do not stay clean for long. I didn’t realise how much damage my toddler could do with a granola bar! I’m forever vacuuming, mopping, sweeping. I swear its easier to just keep them dirty but well you know…germs – I definitely do not want them hanging around.

One item that I have recently tried out is the VAX steam mop – Not only is it quick and effective it also can be used on different floors. Whether that be your bathroom, kitchen or even your carpets for a freshen up. The Vax Steam Fresh is a powerful steam cleaner ideal for hygienically cleaning sealed hard floors, which combined with specially formulated Vax Steam Detergent, breaks down grime, neutralises odours and eliminates 99.9% of harmful bacteria. It breaks down grease and grime which leaves floors sparkling. I also really like how lightweight and easy to use it is. It’s only 3.0kg and took very little time to set up and get started on my floors.

One feature I also LOVE is the detachable handheld steamer making cleaning grout within your tiles or shower super easy. No more scrubbing for what seems like hours. See some before and after photos below which show just how clean it makes tiles and floors.

Not heard of Vax before? Vax is a complete floorcare brand offering a range of products for all in home cleaning tasks. They provides products that provide both efficient and effective results.

If you would like to give this or any of their other products a try then Vax is sold through a range of retailers including;Bunnings Warehouse, Harvey Norman, The Good Guys, JB Hi-Fi Home, Bing Lee etc.

Cleaning made easy! Be sure to give it a go and let me know what you think.

Happy Cleaning

The Benefits of Op-Shopping

The Benefits of Op-Shopping

Who loves to op shop? Now I’m a girl who loves shopping, i could shop all day long, any day of the week. I’m going to throw it out there and say that my favourite shopping experience is always when I’m op-shopping! There’s something about going to your local op-shop and rummaging through all the bargains and deciding what goodies you can take home to revamp, reuse and recycle!

I love that each of the clothes on the racks all have a story. Memories were created in them and now the possibilities are endless for their next journey and new owners. The fact that you can create new high end fashions that you see in magazines but at a low, affordable price but STILL look and feel like you just jumped off a catwalk. Now that is something i love!

There really is something for everyone in an op-shop – just look around your local and check out the array of people in store. There’s always such a mix! Old, young and the super hip and trendy. I have many pieces which I’ve purchased that people can’t believe i bought at an op shop. The possibilities are endless and the bargains are there to be found.

You may of seen on my Instagram that i attended my local St Peters Salvos in Tempe Sydney last week. They recently showcased a new layout that has been designed to give shoppers a more satisfying experience when they shop. There are more checkouts to reduce delays, additional dressing rooms and curated spaces across the store. My personal favourite is The Salvos Street Boutique. It’s is a brand new area, fitted out with second-hand curios and designer pieces, created to encourage fashion-forward, budget conscious consumers to shop at their local Salvos Stores and discover affordable fashion whilst helping the community and the environment. What is not to love about that?

As part of their new St Peters store revamp they held a Fashion show hosted by the wonderful Faye De Lanty which showcased 10 fabulous looks she created all with op shop goodies. She reinvented the looks and gave each piece a new lease of life. The stunning models of all shapes, sizes and styles strutted their stuff down the runway showing off each outfit with such sass! I certainly left with much excitement to get shopping and get creative with my fashion choices.

It’s safe to say that with all the new goodies you buy the wardrobe space gets a little tight. Which is why it’s also important to donate your unwanted goods to your local Salvos. Those wishing to donate to Salvos Stores can ring to have their items collected or deliver their donation during normal business hours to their nearest Salvos Store. Donations should not be left after hours outside Salvos Stores, as these are often stolen or damaged by the weather.

Salvos Stores fund community work across a range of areas including aged care, drug and alcohol rehabilitation, crisis and support accommodation, youth support and more. By shopping and donating at your community Salvos Store you are supporting the mission and programs of The Salvation Army. Salvos Stores nationally each year, is providing $35 million for the good works of The Salvation Army. Find your nearest Salvos Stores by entering your postcode at: www.salvosstores.org.au

So head on down to your local and get shopping!! Please post your favourite op shop finds and be sure to tag or direct message me on Instagram @missmummyandhermini

I can’t wait to see you all looking fabulous!

Happy Shopping!

Review: The Baby Unicorn Manifesto

Review: The Baby Unicorn Manifesto

We all know how much I love unicorns as well as anything magical. After all, Rosie’s first Birthday was unicorn themed so we do have lots of unicorn goodies in our home.

So when I recently received a book named “The Baby Unicorn Manifesto” I was beyond excited to read it to Rosie.

Reading is so important, It helps develop our little ones in many different ways. They learn different sounds, language and it can help them start to recognise words. It’s great for their curiosity and assists their imagination to grow. That’s not all, Reading can help children deal with their feelings and understand different emotions. Sometimes it’s hard to find the time, we all lead busy lives but I believe this is an important step in our children’s routines that can really help them in the long run.

We added reading to our evening routine early on and now she really looks forward to her bed time story, And if I’m honest, I do too. Its a nice way to wind down the day is pretty soothing for both of us, Oh and lets not forget daddy too. I also see it as a bonding exercise for us. I relish the cuddles I get as we snuggle up to a good book together.

My first impression upon opening this book was the beautiful illustration by Nathalie Beauvois on the front cover. Throughout the book the illustration gets better and better. Stunning colours and magical scenes. Enough to inspire us all. The story to go with this book is just as pleasant. The message is to help children understand how capable, special and powerful they truly are. To help build the self-esteem of our little ones and teach them that they can be anything they want. The possibilities are endless in this world and I want Rosie to know just how loved she is and that she can accomplish and be anything she wants to be, And this book inspires that. A beautiful story and a reminder to us that we have unlimited potential from the day we are born.

It is certainly a unique book with a very powerful message and I could not recommend this book enough to you and your little baby unicorns.

Let their imaginations run wild.

Review: Paint and Play

Review: Paint and Play

We all want our kids to learn and grow but also be entertained at the same time. If you have watched any of my recent Instagram stories you will see that Rosie and I have been attending Paint and Play in Sydney.

I live local but had never heard about it, it wasn’t until one afternoon that I started to google ‘Things to do for baby and toddlers near me’ that I came across their information.

Located in Alexandria, they have both inside and outdoor activities. All the experiences and activities aim to allow children to express their thoughts and feelings, practice and develop their skills, help the children to think creatively and learn how to solve problems and to develop early language, numeracy and literacy skills, while having fun in a safe and stimulating environment.

The sessions run on a Monday and Thursday each week between 10am and 12pm.

The first hour is more of a free play, the kids can go around each activity and play until their hearts content. I was really impressed with the variety of activities that they had on offer. Everything from painting and playdoh to dress ups and puzzles. The activities are also rotated on a weekly basis to go along with the ‘theme’ that they are learning about which means there’s always something new. The location itself is very clean, bright and safe for all the little ones too.

The session is broken up by a small morning tea in a separate room with plenty of space and yummy snacks for everyone to refuel before a more structured play time for the duration of the session.

The kids then all gather around and they learn fun rhymes, songs and also play instruments such as tin can drums to music. It’s a great way for your child to interact with other children in more of a class style second half. However if your little one doesn’t quite have the attention span just yet then they are still free to play with the other activities or play on the equipment outside.

You can go for part of it or all of it and there is no booking required. It’s a wonderful morning for both you and you child and I can tell you from experience that your little ones will need a nice long nap after which is a total mum win!

For more information and details on pricing, whats on and parties visit their website:

Here is a few snaps of us enjoying our time there:

So if you are in Sydney then be sure to visit, you won’t be disappointed.

Happy Painting and Playing!

A magical unicorn party…. on a budget!

A magical unicorn party…. on a budget!

There is no doubt that there is a new trend around. Everywhere I look there are UNICORNS!

Slippers, clothes, bags, jewellery and not to mention the delicious UNICORN food! Cakes, milkshakes, bagels and even coffee! It is a trend I have been loving so as it was approaching to Rosie’s first birthday I just knew exactly what the theme was going to be!

First up was DECORATIONS. In every shop I went to there was some form of fun unicorn decorations to be had! However it was KMART AUSTRALIA that supplied most of my goods. (KMART IS MY FAVOURITE!)

I knew I had to have these napkins the moment I saw them and at a great price of $2 per pack. Total Bargain and As for plates we went with this pretty pink, purple and silver pattern. Not technically unicorn but VERY dreamy.

I blew up some pink and white balloons and attached them to the ends of our Happy Birthday Banner and hung this up above our table. We enjoyed a bbq on the day as well as food with sprinkles! Fairy bread, cupcakes, marshmallows. Lots of sweet treats to be had. We managed to find many different Unicorn pieces that we could reuse for Rosie’s bedroom. Such as frames, light up box and dreamy sleepy eyes.

THEN THERE’S THE CAKE….A friend had volunteered her time to bake a cake for Rosie’s party. I was thrilled as she makes the most delicious grazing boards so knew this would be good. I didn’t expect just how good! Take a look at this nothing short of STUNNING unicorn cake which is covered in edible glitter. As good as it looked it tasted even better. WINNER. I know if I had of attempted this it would of failed as I’m no good in the kitchen. I do try though. If you would like Sarah to do a cake for a party in Sydney – Let me know!

Another addition to the party was this giant wooden photo prop that I made Rob make (he is so handy). I decorated it with wooden letter pack from Kmart (IS THERE ANYTHING THEY DON’T DO) and a pack of gems. I encouraged all our guests to stand behind and take photos so that we would have a nice keepsake to look back on. They turned out great!

We also decided to do our own cake smash shoot. I have seen some really creative shots and wanted ours very simple yet floral, and a little bit magical. I bought a Woolworth $4 sponge cake and topped it with whipped cream and sprinkles. I really wasn’t prepared for how messy this would get. Rosie just loved playing with the cake and within minutes it was everywhere. She just made a mess, didn’t really eat much. We bought a $3 Unicorn hairband (Kmart again) as her head piece. Usually she would rip it off but she was way too interested in the cake!

All in all the party went so well and we didn’t spend a fortune. You can find all of the goodies bought for Rosie’s party at Kmart Australia by visiting their website

www.kmart.com.au

Rosie had a wonderful party and so did we. It was so nice to celebrate her first year of life. I best get thinking for next year’s theme!

Magical Unicorns dust to you all!

Our first time travelling with a baby and all the tips we learnt along the way

Our first time travelling with a baby and all the tips we learnt along the way

After we booked our recent trip to the UK I instantly started to dread the super long haul flight. 26 hours travelling in a confined space is a long time for an adult let alone a child. Pre-baby days it was just a case of watching unlimited movies while sipping on free booze with the occasional nap. However it wasn’t like that anymore was it? Now we have an 9 month old to travel with us! My mind raced with a million different things I needed to prepare for and my anxiety level increased at how she would behave. Would her little ears hurt? Will she scream the whole time? Will she sleep? We were about to find out.

We went with a night flight so that (Fingers crossed) she would be able to sleep more or less straight away – My mind hurt too much thinking about time differences etc. and the night flight just so happened to be the cheapest so it was a done deal. We only booked this 6 weeks in advance, so it was pretty last minute. A friend told me to book bassinet seats but I was worried we wouldn’t manage to get them since it was so last minute! I rang the airline who confirmed and booked this in on each of our flights. (Phew…Pretty painless)

Then came the packing – I knew she would be totally spoilt by family and friends so didn’t actually take too much. But what about formula? Food? Could I even take those things on the plane with the whole under 100ml only regulation? WHO KNEW? After lengthy research and many FAQ pages later I found that baby formula/food is exempt from this regulation. They just may do extra screening and/or testing which is fine by me. I was super excited to use Rosie’s little matching backpack and mini suitcase. (Kmart special ladies!)

We also had so much to sort out at the other end – Car seat? Pram? Cot? I really did not want to take all of these on the plane. All the car hire company’s quoted a crazy amount extra a day just for adding a car seat so we decided to just buy one at our destination country which saved a lot of money. Our family just picked it up for us and brought it to the airport. If you don’t have family in your destination country then think about hiring the car seat for a day or two, which will give you a chance to pick a seat up. This can save A LOT of money.

Now when the day came to fly and we checked into the airport I honestly felt like a VIP. I did not look like one in my baggy, comfy pants, mum bun and big cardigan but because we had this super cute baby everything and everyone were super helpful, accommodating and just generally really nice. Which was great and everything but I felt like they knew. They knew what hell we were in for or so I thought.

Security put our baby bottles through separate screening and we were given the short queue since we had a little one in tow. Robert enjoyed a beer whilst I went shopping. (duty free come at me!) Boarding time came and again VIP treatment. We boarded ahead of first class and made way to our seats, the airline staff could not of been more professional and loved making a fuss of Rosie. We sat down, took a deep breath and started our trip.

Plane Selfie!

The number one tip I received from my experienced travel mum friends was that you should give your baby a bottle whilst taking off and landing so that their ears can equalise to the pressure. This really worked. As for the bassinet, it was pretty small and we found that every time she would get settled we would go through turbulence and the seat belt sign would be turned on which meant she had to be taken out. (Just our luck) We ended up baby wearing, using the ERGO 360 carrier. She fussed a bit at first but soon settled and we had an extension seat belt so that she was secure.

What we did notice was that she was very thirsty. She drank way more than she usually does so we were glad we packed extra bottles. Understandable really with all that dry air. Nappy changes were not as bad as I was expecting. On all flights pre-baby I have never noticed baby change on a plane – or anywhere for that matter but was pleasantly surprised with the size of the change table. Yes, it was a squeeze in those tiny toilets but us mums learn to change anywhere!

Before we knew it our trip was over and we had managed it with minimal fuss.We had landed and everyone clapped (Is that a thing now?) We had strangers commenting on how well behaved she was. (Proud mama moment) I personally think they were just glad she didn’t scream the whole trip. (Me too people, Me too)

So after 4 flights and countless time zones later my top tips are:

Bring Entertainment – Toys, Teddy bear anything that is going to keep your little one entertained

Book bassinet seats in advance – By having these seats it meant we had extra room so Rosie could sit and play in front of us and also had the option of her sleeping in the bassinet when needed. Just be sure to check weight/length requirements with your airline.

Be prepared – Delays, turbulence, Anything can happen so ensure you pack extra so you aren’t left in any awkward situations.

Take more food and milk than normal – I know all that dry air makes me Thirsty (Wine anyone?) so our little ones are bound to get super thirsty too.

Take changes of clothes for both you and your baby – I can’t stress this enough. No one wants to be covered in food or poop 30 minutes after take off. Take a few spares so when you land you don’t feel like a total grub.

Try to travel light – I know, I know I have told you to pack extra of everything BUT only of the essentials. Try and make sure you don’t fill your cases to your weight limit so that you can buy things in your destination country!

And finally – Just GO WITH THE FLOW. If you are stressed and anxious. You will find your baby will be too. And remember part of the fun is getting there.

Happy Holidays

A play corner fit for a princess (also know as “The Kmart corner”)

A play corner fit for a princess (also know as “The Kmart corner”)

We had a busy weekend sorting out a little corner for little miss. Rosie is very excited about her new play area (Not as excited as me though!) Pretty much everything in it is from Kmart. Oh how i love that place. You just can’t quite walk away from their bargains! Affordable and oh so pretty! Win Win. I love their eyelash range (or are they cows udders?) The eyelash play mat is my favourite, When it gets dirty…which will be a lot i’m sure, i can just throw it in the wash. Easy Peasy.

Their cushions for children’s rooms are so fun and colourful. With different patterns and shapes (Who doesnt want a strawberry shaped smiley face cushion in their life!)

I like to keep my house fresh and tidy but also lived in. It’s not one of these “show homes” but that’s the way we like it. I love making my house homely and updating it but life on maternity leave means you need to do it on a budget (Can we seriously win the lotto already!?!) That’s why i love places like Kmart and Ikea. I call it “Affordable luxury”

I also love stalking Instagram for ideas. There are so many great hacks and upcycles that you can do with outdated or old furniture. It’s also a really cost effective way of updating your home.

Hopefully Rosie gets lots of joy out of her play area. It will probably change too but for now. I love it.

Let me see your play rooms/corners! What are your must have items? Any storage ideas for hiding toys? Also any tips for baby proofing those storage box corners?

Post your ideas in the comments!

Happy Playing 🙂
